I am pleased to announce the recent launch of The North East kitchen – a blog that continues my exploration of, and interest in food culture with a the broader scope of the North Eastern US. After my initial forays in Maine nearly two years ago, it has become my new home. As a result I have enjoyed learning about a whole new culinary landscape, which I (more…)

As many of you know, or may have noticed from my postings on Instagram, I have recently started sharing my time between New York and Maine, enjoying The Way Life Should Be! And so, I thought it would be appropriate to explore the rich food scene Portland, and Maine at large, has to offer. Our first stop is Portland’s only (more…)

Le Louis XV

I had the honor of photographing the kitchen at Alain Ducasse’s three Michelin-starred Louis XV restaurant in Monte-Carlo. A journalist and I were on assignment for Vogue China, doing a travel piece about the French Riviera, and she had arranged for us to report on and lunch at this establishment, which is housed inside the grand Hotel de Paris. Estancia Vik BBQ

May 3, 2011

When native Uruguayan Chef Marcelo Betancourt was invited to run the Estancia Vik‘s kitchen, he knew he was going to like the place. In a one night stopover between shoots in Tanzania and Mozambique, I stayed at the lovely Oyster Bay hotel in Dar Es Salaam.  The hotel, which is located ocean-side in a former hospital, has just eight rooms and a very spacious lounge, garden and kitchen!  I had the chance to discover this very high-ceilinged number, and to watch the chef (more…)

Paris

September 27, 2010

A quick stopover in Paris today on my way to an assignment in Africa took me to a fascinating Japanese patisserie called Toraya, in the 8th arrondissement.  I had lunch with some colleagues there (to the sound of recorded bird song), and though I did not sneak into the restaurant’s kitchen to steal a few surreptitious shots, I was allowed (more…)

London

August 27, 2010

While in London this last week, we had the pleasure of having classic afternoon tea at the institution of Fortnum and Mason, which dates back to the 1700’s. The scones with Somerset clotted cream and strawberry preserve did not disappoint (you can find clotted cream in New York here, at Tea and Sympathy).  We also discovered the beautiful Wolseley cafe and (more…)
